Be the force multiplier for the US office of SOS Childrens Villages and play a pivotal role in growing the organization to help more orphaned, neglected and at-risk children and youth. The Chief of Staff will be part advisor, part gatekeeper, part problem solver and all-around strategic partner to the CEO in crafting approaches and messages to meet organizational goals and to evolve and advance SOS USAs mission. As a strategist, communicator and implementer, the Chief of Staff will spearhead special projects, assist in developing strategies within the organization and streamline processes to ensure effectiveness. SOS USA is seeking a multitalented professional who can think strategically, wear many hats and manage multifaceted responsibilities.

The Chief of Staff will support the CEO on activities related to donors, SOS Childrens Villages teams in Europe and other countries, and the Board of Directors; collaborate with SOS USAs development, communications and finance departments; and take on special initiatives. The Chief of Staff will also manage the CEOs calendar and daily activities. This position reports to the CEO and is based in Washington, DC.
As part of the management team, this high-level position ensures the smooth operation of SOS Childrens Villages USA. The Chief of Staff is expected to be a highly effective manager and an excellent organizational development specialist.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working with the CEO to manage critical donor and partner relationships
Acting as a representative of the CEO, both internally and externally, as needed
Supporting the workload of the CEO and prioritizing time by managing information flow, resolving problems, and providing analysis and advice on key issues
Assisting the CEO in monitoring KPIs and implementing the strategic plan
Co-leading programmatic projects for which the CEO is responsible
Playing an essential role in building and sustaining the culture and values of SOS USA
Collaborating with the management team to draft effective communications and messaging for both internal and external uses
Helping to position CEO and SOS USA as a thought leader in the NGO space by working with the communications department to draft topical articles on behalf of the CEO, scouting relevant speaking and engagement opportunities for the CEO and staff, and acting as a liaison between SOS USA and NGO partners
Connecting with US government officials, foundation leaders, embassies, ambassadors, consulates, etc., and finding opportunities for collaboration by presenting SOS USA as a thought leader and by engaging larger diaspora networks
Managing the CEOs daily calendar and activities to ensure high-value time utilization of the CEO in regard to external and internal responsibilities
Briefing the CEO on upcoming meetings and ongoing obligations
Preparing and presenting materials in a timely fashion for key external and internal meetings involving the CEO
Drafting documents or conducting research to further the organizations work in the areas of development, communications and partnerships
Liaising with internal departments to prepare the CEO for external meetings, presentations and events, and ensuring timely follow-up of all action items
Organizing CEO travel arrangements and preparing expense reports
Preparing briefing memos and relevant updates for the CEO on outstanding projects, identifying issues, developing contingencies and suggesting remedies
Supporting the CEO on activities related to the Board of Directors, including attending and taking minutes at Board meetings, coordinating department materials for Board of Directors briefings, and assisting the CEO with ongoing communications and activities with the Board of Directors
Coordinating and maintaining smooth communication efforts between the CEOs office, the management team, and internal departments; developing and managing relationships with staff to support/facilitate cross-team projects and information sharing
Working closely with SOS USA staff to schedule and organize complex activities and events, including internal and external meetings and domestic and international travel.
Organizing historical documents reviewed by the CEO to be filed in archiving and indexing systems.
A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 5 years of successful management experience
Experience working in complex organizations with direct interactions with senior management
Fluency across key operational areas such as budget analysis and operations, and knowledge of how nonprofit organizations function
Ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to present options for decision-making
Ability to juggle multiple competing demands and set priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining superb attention to detail
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong written and oral communication and the ability to positively engage with individuals from a range of backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to build authentic partnerships, to collaborate, and to work with efficiency and diplomacy
Preferred experience or familiarity with the Family First Prevention Services Act and the funding streams available within the US child welfare system
