Summary/General Description Of Job:
The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains stationaryengines, boilers, or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities forbuildings.
Essential Duties & Job Functions: Operates andmaintains one or more systems which provide an establishment with such servicesas heat, humidification, steam or high‑temperature water, or electricity. Observes and interprets readings on gauges,meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation;adjusting controls, including direct digital building controls, to insure safeand efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the serviceprovided. Records in logs various aspects of the system'soperation. Keeps the machinery, and equipment of the systemin good working order. May direct and coordinate activities of otherworkers (not stationary engineers) in performing tasks directly related tooperating and maintaining the system or systems. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Assignmentsto the Navy Hospital involve system management for: boilers, chillers,electrical distribution load centers, emergency power, medical air, medicalgas, and after hours and weekend operation of the Hospital’s “trouble desk.”
Mayperform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to theaccomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required ifaccompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.
Accountable For: Theproper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the stationary engineerfield. Completingall mandated training requirements per government and management directives. Timelyand cost effective performance of duties. Timelycompletion and accuracy of all departmental work. Dealingwith a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversifiedsituations. Adherenceto established company safety policies and good industrial and office safetypractices. Compliance with company Standard OperatingProcedures and Personnel policies and procedures. Having the ability to work well underpressure.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, ProfessionalAssociations):
Mandatory Four years experience in operation andmaintenance of power boilers, graduation from a recognized technical school oran approved engineers' apprentice training program with three years experiencein the maintenance of power boilers. Knowledge of automatic boiler controls required. Must have one year’s experience operating directdigital building control systems and sufficient experience to test and treatboiler, pre-treatment and feed water. Navy Hospital assignments require sufficientexperience and skill to perform the additional specific duties detailed above. Must meet and maintain company physical andsecurity requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearanceeligibility when required. Candidates for positions at the Naval Hospitalfacility must prove immunity to Rubella (a.k.a. German Measles or Three DayMeasles) by providing, prior to employment, physician‑signed documentation ofeither immunization (vaccine) or antibody titer (blood test), and evidence of aTB (tuberculosis) test within the past year. Must possess good communication skills for aservice team environment. Valid state driver’s license with acceptabledriving record. U. S Citizenship. Abilityto successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on thecontract.
Certification City of Seattle Steam Engineer Grade 2 or greateror equivalent License required. Certification to operate and maintain any airconditioning and boiler plant equipment up to and including central plants withan alarm system, which monitors all heating, and other utility systemsinstalled basewide.
