Job Summary:

SonoSite is seeking an Human Factors Engineering Intern to work in a collaborative team environment to facilitate the design, development, and testing of the digital and physical usability of our ultrasound product portfolio (systems, transducers, accessories, etc.).

At SonoSite, the HF Engineer will contribute to a wide range of human factors initiatives within the company. Moreover, this person will work across disciplines and with external vendors to create a superior product resulting from the application of the Human Factors design process throughout the product lifecycle. The Human Factors Engineer will apply these principles with careful attention to task analysis, risk and hazard analysis, and formative
and summative testing with internal and external customers.

Essential Job Functions:

We are seeking an HF intern that is comfortable working in a multi-discipline environment with engineers, regulatory, software developers, and interaction designers. You will apply HF principles and methods to user research, design, and evaluation during all phases of the product development process. Your responsibility includes ensuring designs, methods, and processes comply with guidelines and standards issued by regulatory and standards organizations (e.g., FDA, ANSI, IEC). This is an internship role in which you will work on crossfunctional teams and be responsible for the human factors activities of several concurrent projects. Interpersonal relationships are important as you collaborate closely with other disciplines across the organization. In addition to the human factors responsibilities, as time allows, the candidate will also work with the Systems Verification team to aid in the verification of medical devices, execute tests and document test results that are later used for FDA submission.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • Further education in Human Factors Engineering desired but not necessary
  • Must be able to apply human factors concepts to real devices and drive the adherence to human factors requirements.
  • Must be able to execute formative and summative testing
  • Must be able to execute verification tests for Systems Verification based on given protocols
  • Good project management skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills
