Position SummaryBig Bend Community College invites applications for a Director of Health Education Programs. The Director of Health Education Programs provides leadership and direction for healthcare programs including the Nursing Assistant and the Associate Degree Nursing programs. The Director also oversees the Medical Assistant program and its health education support courses. This position reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by ACEN, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC). Nursing courses are taught with flipped instruction and teaching assignments are arranged by topic.
Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job DutiesPrimary essential responsibilities include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Coordinate, facilitate, and direct the health education programs, courses, and faculty. This includes but is not limited to curriculum and program development, revision and evaluation; scheduling and instructional assignments including clinical sites; budget development and management; and community outreach and partnerships.
Facilitate curriculum development and implementation, as well as its evaluation and revision to reflect current professional standards.
Maintain national accreditation standards of Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN); coordinate evaluation of program components including clinical sites, student/graduate, and employee satisfaction, and prepare relevant reports and applications.
Develop, monitor, and manage department budgets and assist in the management of facilities and equipment including controlling inventory, coordinating maintenance, and purchasing equipment; pursue grant opportunities as available and applicable.
Establish and coordinate clinical sites and placements throughout the BBCC service district; establish and maintain effective communication with clinical and community partnerships; involve service district communities in health education at the BBCC campus and promote partnerships.
Represent the College to develop, promote and enhance vocational educational activities including serving on college, community and statewide committees.
Supervise, support, and evaluate health education faculty and staff in accordance with institution policy, state, local and federal rules and regulations, including governing agencies such as ACEN and the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC).
Participate in and facilitate recruitment and retention efforts for full-time and part-time faculty and staff; support and promote faculty and staff professional development, and ensure that all faculty are appropriately certified.
Teach portions of nursing courses as well as some clinical rotations. Note: nursing courses are team taught with flipped instruction and teaching assignments arranged by topic; teaching is not a major part of position duties.
Facilitate ongoing review of admission, advising and support services for program students; address student academic/disciplinary problems and student grievances.
Foster a positive professional environment and an organizational culture that supports collegiality, personal well-being, and professional development of students, faculty and staff.
Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences as well as support and promote an environment that appreciates and respects differences.

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of safety data sheets (SDS), equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics.
Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.

Minimum & Desirable QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
An active, unencumbered Washington nursing license.
Master's degree in nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse including two (2) years of experience in nursing education. The two (2) year requirement for experience in nursing education may be satisfied with ongoing educational consultation/mentoring during the first two (2) years of employment.
Current knowledge of nursing practice.
Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Curriculum development and administration experience.
Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Experience with specialized accreditation.
Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
